Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
On Tuesday, we kicked off this year’s Budget Engagement Forums at Edgewood Recreation Center. The room was packed, and people came ready to talk, listen, and share ideas about the future of our community.

BEF 1

Residents came out in force to talk to us about child care, housing, homelessness, public safety, protecting our immigrant neighbors, and so much more.

BEF 2

If you weren’t able to make it, we have two more opportunities for you to join us:

Tonight (Thursday, February 20) at 6:30 p.m.: Budget Engagement Forum at the UDC Student Center (4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW)
Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m.: Budget Engagement Forum at Kenilworth Recreation Center (4321 Ord Street, NE)

You can also submit feedback at budget.dc.gov.

BEF 3

I hope to see you tonight or Saturday—be sure to bring your fresh ideas and your most persuasive pitches!
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowser

It’s Official: Go-Go Is DC!
Go Go
On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the Go-Go Music of the District of Columbia Designation Act of 2019 to make Go-Go the official music of Washington, DC. The legislation, introduced by Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie and unanimously passed by the Council, calls for the implementation of a program to support and archive Go-Go music and its history in the District.
Go-Go originated in the District during the mid-1960s to late 1970s and is a fusion of many different musical forms, including funk, blues, soul, and salsa. The unique genre got its name from one of its founders, the late “Godfather of Go-Go” Chuck Brown.
Mayor Bowser celebrated the milestone with a community celebration hosted by the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife and Culture, featuring performances by local Go-Go artists.
