Arrest Made in a 2010 Homicide: 3000 Block of Nelson Place, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in connection to a homicide that occurred on Saturday, July 3, 2010, in the 3000 block of Nelson Place, Southeast.

At approximately 4:21 pm, members of the Sixth District responded for the report of a shooting at the listed location. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 66 year-old John Pernell, of Southeast, DC.

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and booking order, 29 year-old Kavon Young, of no fixed address, was transported by members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit to the Homicide Branch, where he was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
