It’s about that time again. Multiple songs like to deem the holidays as the best time of the year. I find that sentiment debatable. However, I do love giving gifts for the holidays. My family is full of women so I especially love gifts that follow a theme. This year is a makeup theme which I’ll get into later. I typically do my shopping in November. Most of the Black Friday sales begin early. This benefits everyone for a multitude of reasons. First, we get to beat the rush and avoid the potential fights over merchandise. Second, it is not as exploitative as the usual Thanksgiving/Black Friday shopping craze that leaves employees miserable during the holiday. At this point, Black Friday sales are not as good as they once were, anyway. People are fighting for the same 20 percent discount they get throughout the rest of the year. I digress, back to the gifts. I prefer to pick one store that sells a variety of things and buy gifts that fit every personality. Here is my holiday gift guide. Feel free to take as many of these ideas as you like. The final thing that makes holiday shopping ideal for me is my no fail shopping rule. For every two gifts I purchase, I buy one item for myself!
The Beauty Buff: Perfect gift sets for a makeup addict. These products were created by Black women and have fantastic pigment payoff for people of color. All items can be found at Sephora.
The Couch Potato: Gifts for people who love lounging around. Sometimes you want to curl up in front of the TV with a chunky blanket and comfy PJs. Savage x Fenty recently expanded their loungewear section just in time for Black Friday. If you are really in a giving mood, tack on a Disney+ subscription!
The DIY Diva: There is nothing more thoughtful than a homemade present. These gifts are inexpensive and low maintenance. Perfect for last minute gift exchanges.
Dessert Baskets- Grab some holiday baskets and cellophane bags from the dollar store and fill them with homemade or store-bought treats. Personally, I always include a mix of both.
Infused Vodka- The key with this one is to find a quality vodka. Candy infusions are the easiest but you can also use weirder foods like pickles or Cheetos. Separate candies according to color and place them in separate containers. Pour vodka into the containers and let them sit until the candy has dissolved. If using gummy candy, you will need to strain the gum that is left behind.
Photo Album – Everyone keeps photos on their phones now. Unfortunately, there are not as many photo albums. Collect all the photos you have taken on your phone with your loved ones in 2019, get them printed and add them to a photo album. Feeling extra creative? Make or decorate your own book.
The Spa: Self-care has been the theme of 2019. Everyone is taking advantage of little pleasures to get through this thing called life. What is more relaxing than a candlelit bath after a rough day? LUSH and Bath and Body Works are the best stores to get the most bang for your buck.
The Book Worm: Books are such versatile presents that hold so much meaning. They are the perfect travel accessory. Books can also be regifted with ease after you finish reading them. Here are some fascinating and sometimes controversial Black women who recently released books.
The Party Animal: Know someone planning a New Years Eve party? Lighten their load and gift a bar set or personalized glasses. Spencer’s Gifts has a great selection of shot glasses for people who love pop culture. Even better, they usually have some sort of sale if purchasing multiples. Finally, do not forget to add a bottle of something with these. The recipient will thank you!
