What’s New, Affordable, and a Healthy Living? The Wren

Today was the groundbreaking ceremony for The Wren, a new in the Shaw neighborhood expected for occupancy by July 2020 with development efforts by MRP Reality , Ellis Development, and JBG Smith.

The Wren is most certainly what Washingtonian’s need right now!  Something new and affordable to come home to after a longs day of work.  “I’m a native Washingtonian, and lifetime resident of the Shaw neighborhood, and glad to see it where it is.  It will enhance Shaw.   Affordable housing is good, along with Whole Foods Market to bring nutrition to the community is good, since this area has been vacated so long,”  says Gretchen Wharton, Chair of Shaw Main Streets.

Residents in the Shaw neighborhood have much to look forward when The Wren is ready for occupancy in 2020.  Beginning with 30% of their units being affordable, metro accessible, walking distance to DC’s hottest nightlife, entertainment, and restaurants.  Whole Foods Market will only plan to occupy 46,000 sq feet of the street level retail space.  The project plans to provide over $500 thousand dollars to support local hiring, business, and entrepreneurship.  The developers also plan on improving the intersection, travel lanes, sidewalks, and streetscape along Sherman Ave.

Although the application process for the 433 unit development has not started, residents will soon be able to get more information about The Wren from MRP Reality.
