Meaning of Dr. Ben Carson’s Statement

Recently Dr. Ben Carson made a statement during his speech that “If people really knew the history of Margaret Sanger they would think differently about the organization.” Margaret Sanger is the founder of Planned Parenthood. She opened up the very first birth control clinic in the United States which eventually led to her arrest for distributing information on contraception in 1916. In 1921 Margaret founded the American Birth Control League, which later became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She organized the staff that consisted of all females in Harlem with an entire African-American staff.

Carson then agreed that she made these birth control clinics to control the births of African-American children. He is sure of it and does not want to change his mind about it because he says he knows her. But to say what he said may have been a little out of proportion. I mean to say that the reason behind birth control was to limit African American lives is a little over the top. But Carson stands by his words and says that is why they put the clinics where they did in primarily black neighborhoods.
