Removal of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Mural will Mark Beginning of the $208 Million Project

                                                                                                                            

On Thursday, June 8, at 11:00 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser will highlight the removal of the 56-by-7 feet oil painting at Martin Luther King, Jr., (MLK) Memorial Library. The removal will mark the start of the $208 million modernization project that is scheduled to reopen in 2020. Once completed, the library will include a café, patio, rooftop, terrace auditorium, and a conference center. In 2015, Mayor Bowser accelerated the funding to renovate the central library in her Fiscal Year 2016 Budget.
