In Black America, Black History Facts

Bring on the chips, dip, wings and, Lager it’s Super Bowl 50!  Before being drafted as the first overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, Cameron Newton played college football at Auburn, and what’s even more fascinating is that he is the only player in modern day to be awarded Heisman Trophy with in one year time span.  It is still evident that the NFL is blindsided by the African American man’s ability to perform on levels never thought of. Will you be cheering Cameron Newton on for Super Bowl 50 or Denver Broncos?

Back in 1969 for the Super Bowl the Vikings (12-2) put together a sensational season.  They were known as a physical team.  They did nothing fancy; they just hit hard and executed cleanly.  The cornerstone of the club was the rugged front-four unit on defense, and that gang included tackle Alan Page and All-Pro ends Carl Eller and Jim Marshall.  Split end Gene Washington was the Vikings’ primary deep threat and showed how he could break open a game in the NFL title game against Cleveland.  In the first series he raced up the left sideline under a Joe Kapp bomb and outfought defender Walt Sumner for the ball.  That play carried from Minnesota 33 to the Brown’s 24 and the Vikings took it in from there.
