Gallaudet University is a small private University located in the heart of Ward 5 that caters to the deaf and hard of hearing. It serves its students from elementary school all the way through graduate school. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and has its own police department.

Founded in 1864, Gallaudet alumnus totals are more than 20,000 around the world. They have approximately 52 alumni chapters which initially formed in 1889. It is also one of the area’s largest businesses, with direct salaries, wages, and benefits totaling more than $107.8 million in FY 2014. The University is 1 of 3 in Ward 5.
