Fashion Week Favorites: Spring/Summer 2018

New York Fashion Week just ended and this was one of the best I’ve seen in years. To be honest, I’d gotten bored with NYFW. Usually the same shizz, just a different season. I was definitely impressed with the amount of diversity this time around. It was truly exciting to see. Without further adieu, here’s the best of New York Fashion Week:

Addition Elle:

Once again, Addition Elle has fearlessly showcased curvy women! My favorite part of the show was the pieces from the Jordyn Woods collaboration. As usual, the Ashley Graham pieces were showstopping. They also included more than one WOC, which is fantastic!  You can watch the Addition Elle show here.

Christian Siriano:

Christian Siriano has been one of my absolute favorites since his Project Runway days. The way he blends Haute Couture and Ready to Wear is truly breathtaking. Also, his advocacy for inclusion in the Fashion Industry is amazing. This is his second year using both straight and curvy models in the show. If you remember, Siriano was the only designer to step up and dress Leslie Jones for the premier of Ghostbusters after everyone else refused. This year, she sat front and center for the show. If you haven’t seen the video of her cheering on the models yet, I suggest you go get your life! You can watch the Christian Siriano show here.

Chromat:

Known for its structural, futuristic, and “architectural” pieces, Chromat has been one of the brands to watch for a long time now. They frequently use Denise Bidot in runway shows but this year, they went above and beyond. Chromat included models of all shapes, sizes, and ages! They even included a transgender model. It was refreshing to see older models and curvier models walking alongside the standard ones. THIS is what true inclusion looks like! The caged pieces and swimwear were the strongest looks. Also, the shoes made by Melissa were to die for.  You can watch the Chromat show here.

Torrid:

This was Torrid’s first time at NYFW and THEY CAME TO SLAY! They matched delicate lace and florals with grungy leather and denim pieces. The whole show had a Bohemian meets CBGB vibe. I loved that they included the finalists from their model search in the show. Also, I love how diverse the finalists are! I’m probably biased but I loved every minute of it. As someone who frequently shops at Torrid, I’ll be impatiently waiting for these items to be available in-store. Seriously, I need that leather jacket with the gold detail on the sleeves! I hope to see Torrid at more NYFWs to come. You can watch the Torrid show here.
